The Autumn 2024 Edition of Outlook is here. This edition highlights the ongoing concerns with hillside developments in various regions, the impact on local communities, and upcoming events organized by The Hillside Trust. Topics include:


  • Ludlow, Kentucky: Fischer Homes’ development of a 64-acre hillside is moving forward despite recent landslide activity. The Hillside Trust expresses concerns over potential future instability.

  • Southgate, Kentucky: Despite opposition from The Hillside Trust, a development of 575 housing units on a hillside with a history of instability was approved. Recent landslides

    have already affected nearby buildings, raising concerns about future risks.

  • CUF Community Landslide: A student housing project for the University of Cincinnati caused a significant landslide due to an unretained hillside cut. Damage includes sidewalk collapse and potential waterline ruptures. A large retaining wall is under construction to mitigate further damage.

  • Brookfield Lane, Mt. Lookout: A planned six-home development in a steep ravine has been halted after opposition from The Hillside Trust. The area remains under scrutiny for potential redevelopment.
