Acquired: 2007 by fee simple purchase from Blackhawk Development, LLC.
Features: this bowl-shaped property contains a remnant wetland dating back well-over 100,000 years ago to the Illinoisan Ice Age.  The Hillside Trust collaborated with Mt. Washington residents who raised $60,000,combined with $140,000 contributed by the State of Ohio to buy out Blackhawk Development.    The developer was planning to drain the wetland and build 16 homes. 

For the last 3 years, The Hillside Trust has been removing vines and honeysuckle from the site in an effort to recolonize the property with native plant species.  Eventually, the site will be used as an outdoor classroom for nearby schools.

On Wednesday, October 20th, The Hillside Trust will host its annual membership meeting at the Maxwelton House on Edgecliff Point in East Walnut Hills. The program will run from 5:30 to 7:30pm, with snacks and refreshments provided.The keynote speaker for the evening will be Aaron Betsky, Director of the Cincinnati Art Museum. The tiltle of Mr. Betsky’s presentation is “Landscrapers and Green Sprawl: Building with the Land, not On It.” Admission is free for members of current standing with The Hillside Trust. Non-member admission is $35 and will cover one year’s membership to the organization.  Please RSVP at 321-3886, as seeting will be limited to the first 100 people.
